Ormoc City!

Tough facts about Ormoc:

1.) The city's name is derived from ogmok, an old Visayan term for lowland or depressed plain. It is the first non-provincial city of the Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 177,524 people. Ormoc is the economic, cultural, commercial and transportation hub of western Leyte.Ormoc City is an independent component city, not subject to regulation from the Provincial Government of Leyte. 2.) Ormoc Flashflood

It was in November 5, 1991 that the killer flood killed more than eight thousand ( 8000 ) Ormocanons. Almost the entire city was being vanished by the phenomenon.But after 19 years the city is rebuilt and reshape with new infrastructure, malls and institutions.

3.)Lake Danao

Lake Danao is a guitar-shaped lake covering an area of 148 hectares in the island of Leyte, Philippines. The area around it is the 2,193-hectare Lake Danao National Park, which also includes the Amandiwin mountain range.The lake is about 15 kilometers northeast of Ormoc City and is only a half hour drive along the Tongonan national road. It is a nice and perfect gateways of those tourists or locals who wants to enjoy nature and fresh water. Floating cottage and boat are available with reasonable prices.

4.) The New Ormoc City Hall


Ormoc's latest pride. The newly built City Hall with great amenities and big offices. It is located at Cogon Ormoc City. It is near in LTO and Ormoc Post Office.

5.) Lucy Torres - GOmez



The newly - elected Congresswoman of the fourth district of leyte. Lucy is well - loved by most Ormocanons because of her attitude and their families reputation.
She was in third year high school and I was in first year when I happened to see her because we both studied in SPC ( St. Peter's College ) of Ormoc. Even then she was a head turner because of her very beautiful face and super fair complexion which she was so different among us. Actually it was her and her sister Karen that were so popular in the campus because they both possessed beauties and brains.
Ormoc is so proud of Lucy because of her achievements as a TV personality and now as a politician though we are still awaiting for her plans and actions for the city and the fourth district of leyte.
